Vintage Toshiba Tecra 510CDT laptop with its Toshiba Desk Station V Plus docking station (model PA2710U). A distinctive late-1990s setup for a vintage computer collection, restoration project, or parts.

The laptop and docking station receive power. The laptop’s built-in screen displays an image, and we were able to enter the BIOS setup. The BIOS showed 32 MB of memory and detected a built-in hard drive. During startup, the screen displayed “TOSHIBA Desk Station ATTACHED,” and the memory self-test completed.

However, the computer does not consistently proceed beyond the startup screen or load an operating system. At times, the hard-drive activity indicator lights briefly and the system appears to begin booting, but then stops with no further response. It also displays “Bad RTC battery” and “Bad check sum (CMOS)” messages. The RTC/CMOS battery likely needs attention. We have not diagnosed the cause of the incomplete boot.

The floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, docking station expansion features, ports, and battery life have not been fully tested. Please do not assume they are working. The laptop and docking station have cosmetic wear, marks, and discoloration consistent with their age; examine all photos closely for their exact condition.
