Supermicro X10DRL-i Dual Xeon E5-2699 v4 — 44 Cores / 88 Threads — 64GB Hynix ECC — Dual NoctuaTL;DR — Why this is a fantastic homelab platform
If you want a serious but QUIET Proxmox / virtualization / homelab server without the noise of a rackmount datacenter machine, this is an unusually capable unicorn setup.
You get:
44 physical CPU cores / 88 threads
2× Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4
64GB premium SK Hynix DDR4-2400 ECC Registered RAM
4×16GB dual-rank RDIMMs
2× premium Noctua NH-D9DX i4 3U CPU coolers
Supermicro enterprise-class motherboard
IPMI / remote management
TPM-equipped platform
Latest available BIOS installed
Windows 11 Pro tested successfully
Current Ubuntu Linux tested successfully
Excellent platform for Proxmox, VMs, Docker, Kubernetes, ZFS, NAS, self-hosting, compilation, rendering and heavily threaded workloads
This is essentially the fun part of enterprise server hardware — huge core count, ECC memory, IPMI and lots of expansion — without being forced to live with screaming rack-server fans.
Everything included has been tested together - I have put all kinds of workloads, including gaming, on it, and it does it like a champ.
What's IncludedSupermicro X10DRL-i Dual-Socket Motherboard
Enterprise-class Supermicro dual-LGA2011-3 motherboard designed for Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 processors.
The board provides an excellent foundation / virtualization
Homelab servers
Docker / container hosts
Kubernetes labs
NAS / ZFS systems
Development servers
Compute nodes
Rendering systems
Self-hosted services
Multi-user lab environments
The motherboard has been upgraded to the latest available BIOS.
2× Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4
This bundle includes two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors.
Each CPU provides:
22 cores
44 threads
55 MB of L3 Cache
Combined:
44 CORES / 88 THREADS / 110MB L3
That gives you an enormous amount of parallel CPU capacity for virtualization and heavily threaded workloads.
Instead of building a homelab around multiple smaller computers, this platform can host a substantial number of services and virtual machines on one machine.
It is particularly well suited for users who want to experiment with:
Multiple Windows/Linux VMs
Proxmox clusters or nested virtualization labs
Active Directory labs
Development automation
Self-hosted applications
Media services
Compilers / build / CPU compute workloads
64GB Premium SK Hynix ECC Memory
Included is:
64GB SK Hynix DDR4-2400 ECC Dual-Rank Registered RAM
Configuration:
4×16GB dual-rank RDIMMs
These are quality SK Hynix enterprise/server DIMMs — not a random assortment of mixed generic memory.
ECC Registered memory is especially desirable for systems intended to run continuously, virtualization hosts, ZFS/storage servers and other workloads where stability matters.
The included 64GB configuration has been tested successfully with this motherboard and both processors installed.
Dual Premium Noctua Cooling
Both processors are cooled by:
2× brand new Noctua NH-D9DX i4 3U
This is one of the features that makes this platform especially attractive for a home homelab.
Traditional dual-Xeon systems are often sold inside rackmount chassis with small, extremely high-RPM server fans.
This platform instead uses premium Noctua tower coolers.
That means you can build a powerful dual-Xeon server into a normal ATX-style enclosure and avoid much of the noise associated with conventional rack servers.
Ideal for:
IPMI / Remote Server Management
The Supermicro platform includes onboard BMC/IPMI remote-management capability.
This is extremely useful for a homelab or server because the machine can be managed remotely without requiring a dedicated monitor and keyboard.
Perfect for a headless Proxmox or Linux server installation.
Windows 11 Pro Tested
This exact hardware has successfully run:
Windows 11 Pro
The motherboard is TPM-equipped, and Windows 11 Pro has been installed and operated successfully on this actual system.
This is not simply assumed compatibility — it has been tested.
Ubuntu Linux Tested
The system has also successfully run a current release of:
Ubuntu Linux
All 44 cores / 88 threads were recognized and usable.
That makes this an excellent starting point for Linux-based virtualization, container hosting, compute or server workloads.
Latest BIOS Installed
The motherboard BIOS has already been upgraded to the latest available version.
No need to hunt down old BIOS files or upgrade the board just to get started.
Memory Slot Disclosure
I believe strongly in accurately describing used hardware.
One memory slot:
P2-DIMMG1
has previously failed to recognize a DIMM and is therefore not being used.
The motherboard is currently configured with the included 64GB of SK Hynix ECC memory in known-good memory slots, and the system has been successfully tested in this configuration.
The included 64GB configuration operates normally.
This known slot issue is disclosed clearly so there are no surprises for the buyer.
Optional 1TB Samsung EVO SSD
A 1TB Samsung EVO SATA SSD is also available if you would like to purchase the platform with storage included.
This can make the system essentially ready for an immediate Proxmox, Ubuntu or other OS installation.
Please contact me through if interested in adding the SSD.

Why Buy This Instead of a Cheap Rack Server?
There are plenty of inexpensive old enterprise servers available.
The problem is that many of them come with:
Loud high-RPM fans
Proprietary power supplies
Proprietary chassis
Limited GPU compatibility
Limited cooling flexibility
Awkward desktop/home use
This setup gives you the enterprise features enthusiasts actually want:
44 cores / 88 threads + ECC memory + IPMI + dual sockets + Supermicro reliability
while allowing you to build it into a conventional enclosure with standard components and quiet Noctua cooling.
For a serious homelab enthusiast, virtualization user or someone who simply wants a ridiculous number of CPU threads available in one machine, this is a very fun platform.
Tested Before Sale
This is not an unknown-condition pile of server parts.
The motherboard, processors, memory and coolers have been used together and tested as a complete working platform.
Tested successfully with:
Windows 11 Pro
Ubuntu Linux
44 cores / 88 threads detected
64GB ECC memory installed
Both processors operational
The system has also previously been used for sustained compute workloads.
Shipping
The motherboard, CPUs, memory and cooling hardware will be carefully packed for shipment.
Because this is substantial server hardware with two large Noctua coolers, appropriate protective packaging will be used, and coolers will be unmounted that you will have to re-mount.
Please review all photos and description before purchase.
Questions from serious homelab / server enthusiasts are welcome.
