Cassette Deck Restoration
The MZ-2000 cassette deck has several well-known weaknesses, including deteriorating drive belts and pinch rollers that can melt over time. In addition, small internal components can deteriorate and cause malfunctions.
Recently, an increasing number of units have developed worn cassette deck shaft bearings. In severe cases, this causes tape transport vibration and eventually prevents tapes from loading properly.
Preventive measures have already been taken on this unit to address these potential problems.
The head azimuth was adjusted using an original SHARP BASIC cassette, and the tape head was demagnetized using a SONY HE4.
The unit can successfully load large programs such as Mario Bros., demonstrating a high level of operational stability.
CRT and Electronic Component Restoration
The CRT-related circuits in both the MZ-2000 and MZ-80B are particularly prone to failure.
To address these weaknesses, the electrolytic capacitors in vulnerable areas have been replaced with new components.
In addition to the large-capacity capacitors, medium- and small-capacity capacitors in areas of concern were also replaced.
Similar maintenance was performed on the power supply and audio circuits.
Please note: As the same maintenance procedures are performed each time, some maintenance photos from the previous restoration were reused for this listing.
CRT Display Condition
Over time, the glass surface of the CRT can become cloudy due to dust accumulation caused by high voltage.
The CRT was disassembled and cleaned, and the focus and other display settings were carefully adjusted.
As shown in the photos, the text is displayed clearly and sharply. The display quality is believed to be close to its original condition when new.
Normal color output to an external monitor has also been confirmed.
Exterior and Keyboard Condition
The exterior and keyboard are exceptionally clean, especially considering that this computer is approximately 40 years old.
Included Accessories
AC power cord
Several cassette tapes
Approximately 40 sample programs are saved on the included cassette tapes.
These programs were recorded directly using this MZ-2000, ensuring that they can be read properly without problems caused by head azimuth misalignment.
