About as CLEAN as they come! This rare vintage gem is an Alienware Area-51m in the "Conspiracy Blue" color, featuring a full desktop Pentium 4 processor running at 3.4 GHz. Not only is this 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 the fastest CPU available in this model, but it is actually the fastest socket 478 Pentium 4ever released. It features hyperthreading as well, for a total of two threads and one core.Information available on this model appears to be extremely limited on the internet, but early Alienware machines like these were typically based on Clevo custom build laptops. A full 100-page copy of the original 766 series manual is included with this machine, as it provides some useful information on both troubleshooting and some hardware upgrade procedures.Released in the early 2000s, this machine has since been restored and refurbished to the fullest extent possible on such an old device, including: thermal paste replacement, CMOS clock battery replacement, thorough interior dusting and cleaning, and benchmarking to stress test all components under load, and the original slow hard drive has been upgraded to a silent and blazing fast SSD.Every attempt has been made to maintain the original Alienware software installation on this computer, rescued from a dying hard drive. I also have another Alienware machine from around the same era that has been used to extract certain drivers that were unable to be recovered. The result is a nearly complete restored copy of the factory Alienware software and customization, while minimal, that was done to the Windows installation from the factory. Condition NotesNew CMOS clock battery installed to avoid "CMOS checksum error" message on bootup.CPU thermal paste has been replaced for best cooling performance. Arctic MX6 thermal compound used in the upgrade.Old hard drive removed and replaced with upgraded 120GB SSD.The speakers do not appear to produce any noise. I have tried re-installing drivers without success. The factory drivers will be installed upon shipment, but the buyer should be aware that the speakers do not currently work!!Original power supply was missing upon restoration, so an aftermarket unit has been sourced and will be included with order.This model was not optioned with a WiFi card originally, but it includes an aftermarket external card that you can plug in to connect. Tested to show some WiFi networks, but due to the age of the WiFi adapter it cannot support the latest WiFi password encryption methods, so we were unable to connect it to verify functionality. I would assume that it works, as it picked up a few WiFi networks, but again we have no way to verify.The main battery does not hold a charge, and will need to be replaced if you wish to operate the laptop without power supply plugged in. Machine functions as intended on AC power. Testing conducted with battery installed in current state.Some wear and tear visible on the chassis, but overall it looks almost brand new inside. There is some minor wear to the reflective "clear coat" surface of the lid in one of the corners, see photos. One of the screws for the hard drive door appears to be loose.Protective plastic peel is intact over the alien on the lid of the device!SSD partitioned into two partitions, main system partition and storage partition. Remaining SSD capacity left unallocated to reduce wear and tear on the drive.Shipping Information
