Infocom Starcross IBM Manual, Disk & Inserts. Map - Very Rare IBM Saucer Version
Price: US $1530.00

The "flying saucer" package version of Starcross for the IBM PC is one of the most famous collectibles in early PC gaming history.

Packaging Details
  • The "Saucer" Box: Released by Infocom in 1982, Starcross was shipped in a round, two-piece vacuum-formed plastic container styled like a classic UFO / flying saucer. Because the round package wouldn't sit flat and frequently rolled off store shelves, retailers famously complained about display difficulties, leading Infocom to quickly replace it with their standardized rectangular "grey box" packaging which is far more common.

  • IBM PC Disk Format: For the IBM PC version, the game came on a 5.25-inch double-sided diskette formatted as a bootable disk (PC-DOS 1.1 runtime).

  • Production Volume: Industry estimates and collector consensus suggest that Apple II copies comprised 60%–70% of total saucer production, whereas early IBM PC copies accounted for only roughly 5%–10% of total saucer production.

What you see is what is included with this very hard to find version of Starcross. I don't know if a catalog of other infocom titles was included in this version or not. There is not a lot of source material to research for the IBM version other than the disk label and map that was included in the box. This listing will require signature confirmation and insurance and will only be offered for USA addresses.
