This is a very fast Win98SE gaming machine with 32 Bit graphics, USB 2.0 ports, a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, and 512MB RAM, which is plenty for the OS.
Google "windows 98 gaming laptop reddit" and the first result is "The best Windows 98 laptop you can get!ThinkPad T41/T42..." The T40 uses the same motherboard with a slightly slower CPU: 1.5 GHz vs. 1.6 or 1.7GHz.
The 1.5 GHz Pentium M still makes this laptop fly compared to the original Win98 Pentium II and PIII based machines.
This has working sound and video drivers, etc. which can be tricky to find.Office 2000 (including Clippy), Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and Reader 6.0, After Dark, Doom 2, Wolfenstein 3D, GTA1, Sim City, and The Sims 1 (with CD) are included. DOS games may not have audio. Install DOSbox if you want audio. The battery is at 56% of new capacity — no guaranty.A charger is included for AC power. The CMOS/RTC (clock/backup) battery is new. The WiFi card is not installed since it is not compatible with modern security, nor is Win98. If you need WiFi, I can recommend a USB or Cardbus solution that works with WPA2 encryption. The ethernet (LAN) driver is not installed since it creates an annoying WOL558.vxd alert at startup. There are some minor scratches and scuffs on the top.I have not tested anything external besides the DVD drive and USB ports.
Pretend it's 1999.
I can install Windows XP SP3 if you prefer.
