IBM ServeRAID 16-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 SATA Expansion Adapter 46M0997 Firmware 634A

Listed for sale here is an IBM SAS-2 Expander daughter card adapter, part number 46M0997. It has 2x "input" SFF-8087 (8x SAS lanes) ports that connect to a compatible SAS controller (HBA or RAID), and provides 4x SFF-8087 ports (16x SAS lanes) to connect to hard drives. This allows you to expand the number of hard drives you can connect to with your SAS controller without having to add another SAS controller.

These units have been updated to firmware version 634A. This is important because older versions have bugs that might prevent some hard drives from working with this SAS expander.

CAUTION: THIS IS NOT A HBA SAS CONTROLLER. THIS CARD DOES NOT WORK BY ITSELF.

I have fully tested these units in my server with an LSI SAS2008 based HBA SAS controller running ZFS on Linux. If you need an HBA to go with this, please check out the "HBA IT mode controllers" section of my store.
