This is the safest way to connect any modern Corsair RMx SHIFT PSU to a GPU with a 16-pin 12VHPWR power connection such as a RTX 4070, 4080, or 4090 Founders Edition, or AIB-partner cards.
By using this instead and eliminating the 16-pin to 8-pin adapter that comes with the GPU, you have several advantages:

• Eliminate a point of failure for each 8-pin power connection you would have had to use.
• Eliminate risk of fire or cable meltdown due to the poor latching mechanism design.
• Eliminate unsightly bulky adapter and clean up your cable management.
• Easier to close the glass side panel on more narrow cases because it doesn't stick out.

Type-5 cables from new Corsair RMx Shift PSUs are not compatible with Type-4 and or Type-3 PSUs as the cables are smaller and unable to be installed. Likewise, you cannot install Type-4 and or Type-3 cables in the new RMx Shift PSUs or any Type-5 PSU as they will not fit.
