Apple Macintosh Portable Model M5126 Backlit Vintage Laptop - Untested As-Is
Price: US $750.00
Up for sale/sale is a highly collectible, cosmetically pristine Apple Macintosh Portable Backlit (Model M5126) from 1991.This is the much rarer, highly sought-after backlit iteration of Apple's first portable computer. This unit comes directly out of long-term storage and is in remarkable cosmetic condition. It has NOT been cleaned up, modified, or altered—it is a true survivor piece.Cosmetic Condition:
  • Chassis: Absolutely gorgeous condition. No yellowing whatsoever. The plastic retains its original light gray color beautifully.
  • Physical Integrity: No cracks, no deep scratches, and no broken plastic tabs or structural flaws.
  • Screen: The active-matrix backlit screen is in perfect physical shape with no visible scratches, delamination, or signs of vinegar syndrome.
Internal Components:
  • Contains the original Apple hard drive.
  • Contains the original 6.5V lead-acid battery (undoubtedly dead due to age, but present for completeness).
  • The logic board has not been recapped or repaired.
What’s Included:
  • Apple Macintosh Portable M5126 Backlit CPU unit
  • Original custom black canvas Apple carrying case with rainbow logo (excellent condition)
  • Original spiral-bound Macintosh Portable Owner's Guide
  • Original Apple AC power adapter/plug
  • Note: The external ADB mouse is NOT included.
Functional Condition & Disclaimer (Please Read):This system is being sold strictly UNTESTED and AS-IS for parts, restoration, or display.Because vintage Macintosh Portables route power directly through the battery, plugging them into AC power with a dead or degraded original battery can permanently damage the internal power management circuitry. To protect the machine, we have not plugged this unit in or attempted to power it on.Buyers should assume the logic board will require standard surface-mount capacitor replacement (recapping) and a new battery cell to be made operational, as is typical for all Apple hardware from this era.
