ASUS Eee PC 900 Vintage Netbook with Original Linux OS + ChargerReally cool surviving example of one of the computers that helped kick off the entire netbook era. This is an ASUS Eee PC 900 in very nice overall condition, complete with its original ASUS Linux operating system still installed and working. Charger is included. The original Eee PC was hugely influential in popularizing the idea of the tiny, inexpensive, highly portable netbook in the late 2000s. Rather than simply being a small conventional laptop, these early Eee PCs were designed around lightweight software, solid-state storage and Linux, making this a particularly interesting piece of computing history. One of my favorite things about this example is that the original Linux software has survived. It is really interesting to explore today because you can see early versions of ideas and software that became much more familiar in the Linux world later on. ASUS designed the interface around simple categories such as Internet, Work, Learn, Play and Settings, with applications for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, media, networking, education and more.It even still has classic Linux games installed, including PlanetPenguin Racer, based on the Tux Racer family of games, as well as LTris. Both are shown running in the photos. It is a great little time capsule of what consumer-friendly Linux looked like in the late 2000s.Specifications / Features:* ASUS Eee PC 900

I was able to navigate around the original operating system and run games including LTris and PlanetPenguin Racer, as shown in the photos.Battery / CMOS Note:The main battery does not appear to be holding a charge based on my brief testing and should be assumed to need replacement. The CMOS/RTC battery also appears to be weak or dead. Batteries are being sold as-is and no remaining battery life is guaranteed.Overall in great condition for age but there are normal minor signs of previous use, so please examine all photos closely for the exact cosmetic condition.A really fun little machine for a vintage computer collector, Linux enthusiast, Eee PC fan, or anyone interested in the brief but hugely influential netbook era. The fact that this one still retains its period ASUS Linux installation makes it much more interesting than an example that has simply been reformatted with a newer operating system.Original ASUS charger included.
