Preparation Before Installing a New Battery

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then release the button. (Every Mac has a power button. On laptops with Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.)
  3. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.

If the problem persists, reset the SMC:

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. On the keyboard, press and hold all of the following keys. Your Mac might turn on. (1)Control on the left side of the keyboard; (2)Option (Alt) on the left side of the keyboard; (3)Shift on the right side of the keyboard.
  3. Press and hold the three keys for 7 seconds, then press and hold the power button without releasing the keys. If your Mac is on, it will shut down when you hold down these keys.
  4. Continue to hold the four keys for 7 seconds, then release the keys.
  5. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.
