1982, 86 Hayes Smartcom II User Manual Binder and 5.25\" Floppy Disk
Description
Up for sale is a vintage Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc. Hayes Smartcom II User Manual which comes in its original binder along with its 5.25\" Floppy Disk; which is a communications program for use with its line of modems. This software and manual lot has a copyright date listed on it listed as 1982, 1986. Sure, it looks a bit odd, but maybe there was some sort of revision there in between that had affected the original date of copyright and what have you, so I\'m going with that date (that\'s visible on the label of the included disk), in as far as the title of this listing is concerned. This binder was sitting in a shelf for the last few years (decades really) and built up quite the collection of dust. It was cleaned every now and again and ultimately stored in a box to prevent any further dust build up. I came across it recently and managed to clean the greater part of it off with a disinfectant wipe, however, the pages have developed some yellowish spotting on them as a result of overall age. Even the binder itself has developed a bit of yellowing on its exterior as well... mostly along the spline. The binder clasps on the inside have also a bit of oxidation on them as well; which may have potentially contributed to the aforementioned yellow spotting of the pages and whatnot.
The 5.25\" floppy disk itself was stored in a floppy disk storage box (which is not included in this listing) and was pretty well preserved until I made the mistake of putting it back in the pouch at the tail end of the binder which accidentally left a compression mark along the top right corner of the disk as well as along the upper left side of it as well. These impression marks were produced courtesy of the middle binder ring which basically just sat upon the disk itself. I doubt that the disk\'s data itself was compromised, for these marks were left along the extremities of the disk itself... yet I can\'t really vouch for any potential damage this may have caused, for I don\'t have the means by which to test these disks at the moment; as the technology is pretty obsolete at this point.
Furthermore, that aforementioned pouch also houses a Special Offers catalog which bears a bit of wear on it, but is still in relatively great shape overall. The transparent vinyl pouch that\'s meant to house this booklet and floppy disk exhibits some signs of yellowing on it; again from overall age and general storage. Please note that the floppy disk will be put in a separate envelope outside of the binder to prevent any further/potential damage to the disk (like the aforementioned impression/compression marks that are now on it).
Anyways, the Hayes Smartcom II software disk\'s label reflects that it contains a communications program that\'s intended for use with these following models; Smartmodem 300, 1200, 1200B, 2400, or 2400B and is intended for use on IBM and PC Compatibles. Again, please note that I really have no way of testing this software out anymore, since I don\'t have access to a working 5.25\" floppy drive at the moment. I figure any vintage retro computer collector out there can figure out a way to access the information on this disk, be it via original hardware or by a Kyroflux Floppy Disk drive. Either way, I\'m pricing this lot accordingly, so please be sure to get in on this deal while it still lasts, for my loss is your gain as they say in the trade.Seller\'s Terms Immediate payment is required for this item listing.
