ABOUT THE LARGE SEAGATE NUMBERS
If you pull SMART on this drive yourself, you will see very large raw values on three attributes:

These are not error counts. Seagate encodes a combined count of total operations and errors into these raw fields, so the raw numbers climb continuously through normal use on every healthy Seagate drive. The meaningful reading is the normalized value, which on this drive sits far
above the failure threshold (077 vs threshold 006 for read error rate, 089 vs threshold 045 for seek error rate). I am explaining it here because these numbers alarm people who have not seen Seagate SMART data before.
IMPORTANT -- THIS IS AN SMR DRIVE
The ST2000DM008 uses SMR (shingled magnetic recording), as disclosed by Seagate. SMR drives work well for desktop storage, backups, media
libraries, and general use. They are NOT recommended for ZFS pools, RAID arrays, or NAS setups that rebuild or resilver, where SMR write behavior can make rebuilds extremely slow or cause the drive to drop from the array. Please buy with that in mind.
