- Fitted a 256GB NVMe SSD, with its thermal pad and caddy seated properly — the pad and caddy are the parts most often left off, and they matter for both temperature and for the drive staying put. It reports 74% health, which is stated honestly below rather than buried.
- Fitted 16GB of DDR4, 8GB in each of the two slots.
- Wiped. The drive was repartitioned and Windows installed from clean media, so nothing of any previous owner remains.
- Clean Windows 11 Pro. Installed fresh, activated and fully updated, then taken to the desktop to confirm it works. It arrives at the out-of-box setup screen so the first account created on it is yours. No bloatware, no accounts of ours.
- Measured the wear parts rather than estimating them: both batteries and the drive. Those exact figures are above.
Cosmetic condition
Good, with one specific flaw worth naming. There is a chip and dent in the palmrest near the Intel sticker, plus the usual shine on the trackpad and keycaps from use. None of it affects how the machine works — it sits flat, the hinges are firm, the lid closes properly and the keyboard works correctly. The photos are of the exact machine you will receive, shot close up rather than at a flattering angle.
What to know before you buy
The screen is the 1366×768 HD panel, TN rather than IPS. The T480 shipped with several display options and this is the HD one. TN panels are best viewed straight on — colour and viewing angles are weaker than the IPS options. Perfectly straightforward for documents, email, browsing and remote work.
The SSD is at 74% health. That is the drive’s own SMART reading, not an estimate. It has plenty of usable life and it is a genuine NVMe rather than the SATA drive some of these shipped with — but it is not new, and you should know that. A replacement NVMe is inexpensive if you would rather start fresh.
Two batteries, and both are included. The T480 uses Lenovo’s Power Bridge system: an internal pack plus a removable external one, so you can swap the external without shutting down. The internal is at 78% of design capacity on 55 cycles; the removable external is at 88% on 250 cycles. That is honest used-battery life, not new, and two packs between them still give a useful day.
Memory is on two real slots — this matters. The thinner T480s of the same generation has its RAM soldered to the board and can never be upgraded. This one does not. You can take it past 16GB whenever you like, which is a large part of why the T480 is still worth owning.
No charger is included. It takes a 65W Lenovo slim-tip charger, and it will also charge over USB-C Power Delivery, so a 65W USB-C charger you already own will work. We would rather not charge you for a spare you probably have, but you do need one and it is not in the box.
Windows 11 is fully supported on this one. 8th generation Intel is on Microsoft’s supported processor list, so there is no "system requirements not met" notice and no question about future updates. It is activated and fully updated.
In the box
The laptop and both batteries. No charger, no original box, no manuals, no dock.
