PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE PURCHASE

This is a vintage PowerBook 180 from 1992. It is working flawlessly and is in great shape. I’ve replaced the hard drive with a BlueSCSI PicoW SD card adapter. The computer is now faster and silent in operation(unless you are using the floppy drive, of course). In addition, this enables Wi-Fi, which was unheard of in the 90’s! I have also added a 2MB RAM upgrade. It has an active matrix grayscale display, very advanced(and expensive) at the time. It has System 7.1 and System 7.5.5 installed in a dual boot. You can switch between the two in the Startup Disk control panel. On the System 7.5.5 partition, I have plenty of software installed, including all the software needed to browse the internet. There is also Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe Illustrator and more essentials. I also am including some accessories, see below.

THINGS TO NOTE:

-95% of active matrix grayscale displays that were installed in PowerBooks suffer from an issue where the corners begin to darken the longer the device has been turned on. This computer displays very mild symptoms. Light darkening mainly on the left corners occurs after about 30 minutes of use. See the last image for an example. The computer is still usable and the display recovers after being off for about an hour.

-The computer will not start up with the battery installed, as it is dead. I removed the cover and put that so the computer looks complete. You can also tape over the gold contacts and put the battery in the computer if you want.

-Configuring the Wi-Fi requires opening the computer, taking out the SD card and editing a file on it. I will gladly set it up for you as long as you provide me with the name and password of the network it will be used on. If you aren’t willing to provide that info or just don’t care about using it at the moment, it is pretty straightforward to do yourself.

-Internet browsing on this device is more of a novelty than anything else. The latest browser that can run is from the mid-90’s. Very few websites will load correctly. However there are a few. The best way to use it is with the FrogFind search engine. It is designed to be used with these computers and will even translate some websites into a format the web browser can display!

-It has a thing on the bottom of it that was used to anchor it to a desk at some point. I did not try removing it because I didn’t want to damage the plastic and it is attached well. If you would like I can try removing it, but the plastic underneath could possibly be damaged.

I will pack the item very well for shipment.
