This is an original, Klipsch ProMedia 6 ohm impedance subwoofer speaker for use in the ProMedia v.2-400, 4.1 and 2.1 subwoofers. It has a new rubber surround and has been tested to function like new. It replaces the factory foam surround that eventually dries out and crumbles. The buyer may return an original Klipsch 6.5" ProMedia speaker for a $13.50 core refund. (This allows a speaker to be refoamed for another Klipsch owner to enjoy it again). The new rubber surround is 13mm wide; the factory surround is 12mm wide. So the new surround allows for slightly more excursion (can move more air). It is suggested that if you reinstall a factory steel grill, that you do not press it fully/flush into the plastic trim ring, but allow the grill to rest slightly higher above the trim ring, to give room for the speaker to move to its full excursion.
Cautions about buying used or non-OEM speakers in these series:
Used: the foam surrounds deteriorate depending on exposure to heat, UV radiation and time. Every ProMedia 2.1 sub has a date code inside, which reveals one of the three factors affecting the foam surround's condition. This version of speaker was last made in 2018.
Non-Klipsch Replacement Caution(wrong impedance):
A) 4-ohm will strain and mightdamage the amplifier.
B) 8-ohm will drawless power from your system. People have bought literally hundreds of speakers that reduce the performance (power) of their subwoofer to 75% of its original capability. This original 6-ohm speaker from Klipsch preserves the subwoofer's full performance.
You can remove the metal grill (see step by step images in my store's listing #232492954390for replacement grills), and touch the foam surround. If it is brittle or sticky or even has holes and tears in it, you know it is time to replace it
