Apple IIc ROM 4 Upgrade Kit
This kit is used to upgrade an Apple IIc (ROM versions 255, 0, 3) to version 4. The "kit" consists of the ROM 4 chip and an 8-page photo-illustrated step-by-step guide on CD on doing the upgrade yourself. Our ROMs are brand new chips, not recycled.
Please note that soldering skills are required because there is a small bit of soldering to be done on the motherboard. Providing the manual on CD allows you to magnify the 8 high-def photos as much as you desire to see details! Please also note that there are a few motherboards which will not accept the upgraded chip. We do not know of any way to determine this in advance; the only way to know is to perform the upgrade and if the system does not work, revert back to your original chip.
ROM 4 offers several improvements/changes over the earlier ROM versions as shown in the table (see photos).
Please note: This is the official Apple Corp. ROM 4 version of the chip. If you would prefer to have the non-official ROM 4X chip, please see our other listings.
If you are able to do soldering work, then you will find this process quite easy. Basically, there are two (2) solder joins on the motherboard that need to be addressed, and you swap one chip out & replace it with the included chip. That's all there is to it!
We personally QA test each chip to ensure it works BEFORE packaging.
