NEW: NOOBS is a way to make setting up a Raspberry Pi easier. You won’t need network access, and you won’t need any special imaging software. Just grab the NOOBS zip file provided, and unpack it onto a freshly formatted 4GB (or larger) SD card. When you boot up for the first time, your system will automatically install. Could not be easier!
I tested this SD Card image with the Pi Camera and the popular and cheap Logitech C210 Webcam, the PS3 Eye Toy and also the Microsoft Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam.A complete list of verified WebCams compatible with the Raspberry Pi is available default configuration provided out of the box is live videostreaming and motion capture on the file share of jpeg snapshots.
The server can be setup to provide:- a live stream- to capture live streams and/or pictures on the network share- to capture images and/or video when something moves in the camera\'s field of vision. This is ideal for observation purposes because it limits the required bandwidth and the number of images produced.
You can rotate the stream captured, you can change the width and height to other values (as supported by your webcam), you can change the number of frames captured per second, you can adjust brightness, contrast and saturation.
For motion detection you can change thethresholdfor number of changed pixels in an image that trigger motion detection, you can filter noise, you can detect motion in predefined areas, you can decide to ignore sudden light intensity changes (for example from a light switch). Also when motion is detected you can select if to capture jpeg snapshots, movies or both. In alternative you can just capture snapshots every N seconds or movies inreal-timeortime-lapsemode (file rollover mode hourly, daily, weekly).
You can adjust the quality to be used in the compression, you can select the codec to be used, supported formats are mpeg1, mpeg4, msmpeg4 (recommended for use with Windows Media Player because it requires no installation of codec on the Windows client), swf and flv flash videos
You can automatically locate and draw a box around the moving objectYou have different timestamp overlay optionsYou can change target directories and filenames for images and moviesYou can have more than one camera each with its own configuration...And more!
Please understand I cannot afford the time to provide support or troubleshooting instructions for your specific Webcam, nor I can guarantee it will work. If your camera is in the list of verified peripherals is likely to work out of the box but in some cases it will require some tweaking. Also I cannot provide support for your specific custom configurations. I do provide some basic troubleshooting and configuration instructions with this image.
Please note: This image does not include any media nor any illegal or copyrighted material. This listing does not include a Raspberry PI computer and does not include an SD card or webcam.

To watch the stream in browsersotherthan Chrome and Firefox you\'ll need to use a Java applet and I provide a working example
