Hello! Have you tried other devices labeled for USB isolation and got burned, or otherwise heard that USB isolators do not work? Try this one, it is actually rated for USB2.0 Speeds. This listing is for a USB Isolator capable of running at actual USB2.0 speeds (480Mbps) while maintainting 3kV isolation between the upstream and downstream connections. This module has been carefully designed using genuine components and careful layout to make sure you and your devices protected. This isolator also includes electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection on both connections. For convenience, one side of the isolator is a USB A Female, and the other side of the isolator is USB B Female. A soft blue led is included on the PCB to indicate when the downstream side of the isolator is powered on and ready. I originally designed this module to solve a problem I had run into. A ground loop on my hifi USB audio DAC made my speakers hum and pop with quiet but noticable electrical noise. I had bought one of the many cheap ADUM3160 isolators, and was disappointed that it just did not work. My DAC was recognized by my computer, but would not output sound. I found out it was because the ADUM3160 only supports USB1.0 (1.5Mbps) and USB1.1 (12Mbps) speeds, which my DAC could not work over. I did not want to pay several hundred dollars for an isolator to work, so I designed my own. After several revisions, this version of my isolator fixed the problem I have been having and has been working great for months! I have been using these to program PLCs with a serial connection, work with CAN/ISOBus adapters, and automotive logic analyzers, as I have always been wary of connecting devices directly to my laptop that have to work with high voltages or large currents. Always use safety procautions when dealing with high voltages! While this isolator will work in the kV range, you should not be unless you know exactly what you are doing!
Notes:
- This is a completely passive device to the computer. It will not show up in (Windows) device manager or (Linux) lsusb.
- This isolator supports two USB2.0 unit loads (200mA) maximum downstream.Use Cases:
